Since the mid 1980's, Angélus, under the dynamic leadership of Hubert de Bouard, has been one of the superstars of Saint Emilion, producing modern-style, deep, concentrated and ripe wines full of richness and fruit. In 2012 Angelus (along with Pavie) joined Ausone and Cheval Blanc in achieving first growth status. A fitting achievement for the hard work and consistent results of Hubert de Bouard. Although the vineyard is planted 50:50 Cabernet and Merlot, the 2013 is made up of 62% Merlot and 38% Cabernet Franc. Deep colour for the vintage, with black cherry and plum complemented by toasty oak and sweet spice on the nose. Grip from wood tannins and lots of toast and smoke alongside ripe forest fruit flavours. Impressive power and concentration, if a little extracted, with a long finish.
