chateau petrus

The vineyard of Petrus covers 11.4 hectares (28 acres) and produces an average of (only) 30.000 bottles each year. The best vintages before 2010 contsist of 100% Merlot, but lesser vintages had a small percentage of Petit Verdot in them as well. In 2010 Olivier Berrouet (the manager of the vinyards) decided to only grow Merlot on the estate. Petrus thanks its reputation because of this grape. After the bordeaux was struck by the Phylloxera vine-pest in the late 19th century, Petrus was replanted with Merlot. The exact reason for this is unclear, but it is agreed to be a very good move.

The Petrus is a wine with complexity, power and lots of fruit. A wine every wine enthousiast should have drunk at least once in their live.
